The a-team

The A-Team

The A-Team is a Christ-centered partial week day adult program that runs from September to May from 9am-3pm. The goal of this program is to encourage adults with social and intellectual disabilities to learn life skills, independence, enhance social communication, and participate in a variety of service projects at Calvary and in the community.

The program will utilize the Calvary campus as the primary home base but will have the opportunity to go into the community. Example programming: Calvary’s community “OutREACH Tuesdays”, which includes Fresh Market, Angel Threads, Food Pantry; physical activity, Lunches of Love, building lists, shopping, prepping meals and more. The program also includes weekly outings in the community. We have trained and committed volunteer coaches that help to support each of the A-Team members to enhance and encourage their amazing abilities.

A-Team is staffed with a blend of staff and volunteers to guide participants through activities. A-Team members do not have 1:1 pairing (like many of our other Special Abilities programs), therefore, participants must be somewhat independent.

General eligibility is:

1. Adults (age 22+) and out of post-secondary

2. Able to manage independently, with staff within view and able to receive and execute simple directions/instructions (if any type of 1:1 support is needed, this should be discussed with A-Team Leadership)

3. Able to express want/needs and likes/dislikes (e.g. verbal, sign language, communication device)

4. Able to self-toilet (occasional support needed is acceptable), no diapering

5. Does not display aggressive behavior on a consistent basis or have an issue with elopement

6. Able to transition to new activities with minimal prompting or redirection

*Additional eligibility is discussed during a program interview.

Each family must complete an in-person intake interview to discuss the program and identify the best fit for their adult.

Note: this program is not regional center vendored, therefore it is the family’s responsibility to cover the cost of the program.

Day 1: Pray That They Will Know Jesus

Scripture to Read

“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” John 17:3

Things to Remember

  1. Your greatest hope for your child is not simply that they are successful, safe, happy, or well behaved. It is that they know Jesus.
  2. You can teach them about God, bring them to church, and model faith for them, but only God can transform their heart.

Prayers to Pray

  1. Jesus, help them know You. Open their eyes to see who You are and draw them into a genuine relationship with You.
  2. Jesus, help them love You. May their faith become more than knowledge, tradition, or something inherited from our family.
  3. Jesus, help them follow You. Give them a lifelong desire to trust You, obey You, and walk with You.
