“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy of being called your son. But the father said to his servants, Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So, they began to celebrate.”

YOU ARE THE CELEBRATION
The son gave up his selfishness because he was so broken. Nothing he touched had any eternal significance. Nothing in this world will fill us or give us hope. Even though the son was lost, the father never gave up hope. His love for his son was greater than the harm his son had done to the family. He didn’t keep a list of wrongdoings. I’m sure he must have hoped and prayed for a miracle.
When the miracle finally happened, here’s how the father celebrated his son: The kiss was a sign of forgiveness. The robe was a sign of honor. The ring was a sign of authority. The sandals were a sign of freedom. The feast was a sign of a joyful welcome. “…for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
Final Thought: Friends, it’s time to come home. If you’ve been living in the “distant country,” it’s time to come home. If you want a new life, come home. If you’re ready for change, come home. Take the first step, and the father will meet you.
