When People Find What They Need
From time to time, Lesli (my wife) will send me to the grocery store to pick up one or two items. Generally, my errand involves a search for something familiar, and I can quickly locate it. But, now and then, I can’t find what I need. As a man, I have taken an oath to never ask for directions or help at a store. So, when I do find an elusive item at the store, it is such a great relief. When people find what they need, it matters.
As the Apostle Peter reached the climax of his sermon in Acts chapter 2, he clearly declared to the crowds gathered in Jerusalem. “‘Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.’ When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?'” (Acts 2:36-37).
Notice the crowds listening to Peter preach sensed their need for the one Peter said God made “both Lord and Messiah.” So they asked what they had to do to embrace Jesus, the Messiah. As Peter’s message unfolded, the listeners felt the conviction of the Holy Spirit. They knew they needed what Peter offered them in Jesus. When people find what they need, it matters!
Are you ready to answer the questions of those who ask about Jesus and your faith in Him? Ask God to give you opportunities to answer the spiritual questions of a needy person in your life today.
When people discover they need Jesus, they look to us as His followers for the answers.
