VICTORY IN JESUS

To read today: Romans 8:31-39

No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39

There is a beautiful gathering of women who meet on Thursday mornings. Joshua and I have the honor of leading them in worship. One morning, Joshua led us in the old hymn “Victory in Jesus.” It was as though these ladies were doing spiritual backflips all around the room. Sure, nostalgia kicked in, but the message of “Victory in Jesus, my Savior forever” incited so much joy that the room was filled with Holy energy and hope. We are “more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” There is a strong juxtaposition between the words conquerors and love. God’s love is powerful. Look at the litany of things that cannot separate us from His love.

I admit there are a lot of Hallmark Christmas movies streaming in our home during the holidays. There is something about those redemption stories of love that grab me. Also, some pieces of music can make me weep for unknown reasons. We are all immersed in a world that God has gifted to us. The power of God’s love is in the moments, such as when a child says to a parent, “I love you.” Love comes from God, and nothing can separate us from that love.

Lord, help us to experience Your love in the moments when we least expect it. We ask You to surprise us with an example of the powerful love that cannot be altered or diminished. We acknowledge that nothing can separate us from that love.
