Today’s Mercy

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22-23

There are new mercies afforded to us each day! This makes my soul sing! To know that every day has its appointed troubles and yet overwhelming appointed mercy for that day! It’s this text that realigns my heart and mind to God’s will. This truth emboldens us to live in hope of the break of each new day!

Jesus said, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:34)  This was demonstrated in the Old Testament when God provided manna in the wilderness to the people of Israel, one day at a time. (Exodus 16:4) There was no storing up or food insecurity. This is a clear image of how we must depend on God’s mercy.

We do not receive today the strength to bear tomorrow’s burdens. We are given mercies today for today’s troubles. Let us be a community that grows in this ministry of mercy.

Next Steps

-Take time to reflect on God’s mercy on your life and thank Him.

-Are there people in your life with whom you need to start extending mercy? Ask the Holy Spirit to help you do that today.
