THE TREASURE OF GOD’S WORD
To read today: Psalms 119:33-35
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17

God’s Word is a treasure beyond measure. It is not just a collection of words on a page; it is the living and breathing revelation of God Himself. Our key verse above states, “All Scripture is God-breathed.” When we read God’s Word, our Heavenly Father speaks directly to us. If you’ve spent time with Pastor Steve Day, you’ll hear him say, “God speaks to our spirit through His Word!” How wonderful is that – we have the opportunity and privilege to hear directly from God through Scripture.
This past weekend, Pastor Shawn preached on Calvary’s second core value: God’s People Delight in God’s Word. The word delight, per dictionary.com, means “to give great pleasure, satisfaction, or enjoyment to; please high.” We should take great delight, pleasure, and enjoyment in His Word, for it is through Scripture that we come to know God’s character, promises, and will for our lives.
Imagine holding a priceless treasure in your hands. How carefully and reverently would you handle it? In the same way, we ought to approach God’s Word with awe and reverence. Every page holds the potential to transform our lives and draw us closer to our Heavenly Father.
When we delight in God’s Word, we discover the richness of His love and the depth of His wisdom. We find comfort in His promises and guidance for our daily journey. Let us treasure God’s Word, not just as an intellectual pursuit but as a means to encounter the living God. May our hearts be filled with joy and anticipation each day as we open its pages, knowing that we are entering into a sacred encounter with our Creator.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help me to approach it with a humble and teachable heart. May Your Word be a lamp to guide my steps and a light to illuminate my path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
