THE STRENGTH OF FALLING DOWN
Most of us spend a lot of energy trying to look like we’ve got it together.
We don’t want people to know we’re struggling or even admit we’re overwhelmed. We carefully choose which parts of ourselves to share, even with people who genuinely care, because vulnerability feels risky and self-protection feels safer. At the end of the day, we don’t want to appear weak. But life has a way of exposing the limits of our strength.
Jairus was a synagogue leader, a respected man in the community. He was influential, educated, and likely accustomed to solving problems. But when his daughter became gravely ill, none of those things could save her.
So, in an act of humility, he fell at the feet of Jesus because he finally recognized where true strength is found.
The world tells us that maturity means self-sufficiency. The gospel teaches us that maturity means dependence on the Lord.
Psalm 121 says, “My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Sometimes God allows us to reach the end of ourselves so we can discover that Christ is enough.
I think that’s why suffering often becomes holy ground. The things we would never choose are often the very places where we encounter God most deeply.
Leonard Ravenhill once said, “The man who kneels before God can stand before anyone.”
Jairus’ faith wasn’t perfect. It was desperate. And that’s encouraging because many of us don’t bring polished faith to Jesus. We bring worried faith. Tired faith. Confused faith.
The beautiful thing about Jesus is that He receives people who come honestly. You don’t have to impress Him. You just have to come.
Final Thought: The strongest thing you may do today is trust Jesus with what you cannot control.
