The Spirit Who Gives Life

To read today: Romans 8:1-2

because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:2

Yesterday we talked about authority and defined it as the one who can tell you who you are, what to do, and how to behave. While we are no longer under the authority of sin and death, it does not mean we become our own authority. Rather, through the Spirit, we now live under the Lordship of Jesus. He is our King, and He gets to tell us who we are, what we are to do, and how we are to behave. To be a follower of Jesus is to submit your whole life to God and His Spirit and as you do, find that you will gain the whole world! (Matthew 16:25)

So, who does King Jesus say we are? He says that we are His friends (John 15:15). Never forget that you are who Jesus says you are, nothing less. What does King Jesus say we should do? He says to “Make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). We are called to tell people about Jesus and help them walk with Him. How does King Jesus say we should behave? He says that we are to love one another as He has loved us (John 13:34). We must make every effort to love God’s family more and more.

In short, when I am living by the Spirit, I am living under the authority of King Jesus, who frees me from condemnation and invites me to live and love like Him!

Final Thought: Ask yourself: are you living and loving the way Jesus calls you to live and love?
