The Perfect Prayer

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter.  If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.  But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Daniel 3:16-18

This account of the three young Hebrew men who refused to bow to any other gods and only worship the one real God represents the absolute perfect attitude for us to hold as we approach Him in prayer.  Take strong note of the three aspects of how they responded to the evil King’s command.

  • We know our God is able to deliver us – full confidence in Him in whom they trust.
  • We believe that He will deliver us – absolute trust and assurance of His power and authority.
  • Even if He does not, yet will we trust in Him – this phrase may appear to represent weakness or a lack of faith when it actually demonstrates the exact opposite. Lord, if you have another way, a better path, or a different answer to our prayer, our faith, trust, and belief in you does not waiver an inch! Praise God!!

This account concludes with the King recognizing the one true God based on the prayer of these young men and the events that follow.  May our prayers be built on these 3 foundations.
