THE LORD HAS HIDDEN

To read today: Zephaniah 1:1-8

Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near.

Zephaniah 1:7

Zephaniah was a prophet in the southern kingdom of Judah during the reign of King Josiah. His name means “The LORD has hidden.” He was one of the twelve minor prophets in the Old Testament who warned of the coming judgment of God for their sins. His message was of repentance and a call to return to the Lord. This message was timely, as King Josiah was leading a spiritual revival in Judah at that time.

It’s important to remember that Zephaniah’s message of repentance and returning to the Lord is still relevant today, no matter the current state of the world, nation, state, or city. We are called to turn from our sins and center our hearts on the Lord. Reading the warnings of Zephaniah can be troublesome and sound apocalyptic. However, the Lord always offers hope in the midst of judgment. That hope is Jesus.

Final Thought:  Take a moment to be silent before our Sovereign Lord. Ask Him to search your heart and show you where repentance is needed.
