Devotional written by Pastor Stephen Millage, Elementary Pastor
THE HUMBLE SHEPHERD
To read today: 2 Samuel 23:1-7
These are the last words of David: The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse, the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, the hero of Israel’s songs: “The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; His word was on my tongue.” 2 Samuel 23:1-3

As we conclude our journey through the life of David, 2 Samuel 23:1-7 gives us the final words of the King of Israel. These words carry profound significance, as they were inspired by the Spirit of the Lord. David, the humble shepherd who became a mighty king, recognized that his rise to greatness resulted from God’s anointing and guidance.
King David’s life is a testament to God’s ability to use ordinary people for extraordinary purposes. Just as David was chosen and anointed by God, we, too, are called to be vessels of His purposes and plans.
David’s reign as king was marked by triumphs and trials. He faced the giant Goliath with unwavering faith and led Israel to numerous victories. Yet, he also experienced personal failures and setbacks. Through it all, David remained a man after God’s own heart.
Final thought: Go before the Lord today and ask that He would give you a humble spirit in all that you do.
