Take5 Devotional today written by Pastor Michelle Tumes, Worship Pastor
The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him about the good news of Jesus.
Acts 8: 34-35
The encounter the eunuch has with the Holy Spirit of God through Philip gains momentum exponentially. It culminates in the eunuch accepting Christ and Philip finds himself in the midst of the spiritual harvest. The eunuch is a spiritual infant, but Philip gracefully meets the eunuch at his level and leads him to Christ.
I believe sometimes we can trip ourselves up over theological acrobatics when all we need to do is simplify our approach. We only need to communicate the basic gospel story with a person who may not know the teachings of Jesus or anything about the Bible. Growing up, it took me a while to figure out that the Old and New Testaments are connected! I will never forget the day the Holy Spirit revealed that the gospel is perfectly threaded through the entirety of the Bible.
Being a parent, I’ve learned that meeting my children at their level and identifying their interests can be a gateway to fruitful communication. There is possibly a reason why the words community and communication are derived from the same core origin. Community begets fruitful communication and ripening of the soul for harvest.
Can we challenge ourselves to just sit alongside a person and try our best to understand where they are spiritually and be available to simply answer their questions?
