THE GOD WHO SEES ME
When Joseph heard his brothers speak of the guilt they had carried for years, he wept. While his brothers could not see what was happening behind the scenes, Joseph saw their pain, their regret, and the burden they had carried. The brothers may have felt forgotten. They were facing famine, uncertainty, and the consequences of their past mistakes. Yet God had not lost sight of them. Long before they arrived in Egypt, God was already at work, bringing help and healing to their family.
Throughout Scripture, this truth is repeated. One of the most beautiful examples is Hagar. Alone in the wilderness, abandoned and overwhelmed, she encountered God and gave Him a unique name, “El Roi,” meaning “the God who sees me” (Genesis 16:13). Hagar realized that even in her lowest moment, she was not invisible to God.
Many of us know what it’s like to be overlooked. We may carry burdens no one else understands. We may wonder whether God notices our struggles, disappointments, or fears. The story of Joseph reminds us that God sees what others don’t. He sees the tears we hide, the prayers we whisper, and the deep needs we carry in our hearts.
Joseph’s life also points us to Jesus. Like Joseph, Jesus was rejected and misunderstood, yet He sees every person who comes to Him. He sees us in our suffering and in our need for grace. The God who saw Hagar in the wilderness, Joseph in prison, and his brothers in the crisis of a famine sees you today as well.
Reflection: What burden are you carrying today that you need to place in the hands of the God who sees you?
