THE COVENANT OF GOD
To read today: 2 Samuel 23:1-10
Is not my house right with God? Has he not made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part? Will he not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire?
2 Samuel 23:5

David’s confidence in God’s covenant is evident in these words. He believed that God’s promises were unshakeable and that God would fulfill every aspect of the covenant established with him. Just as God made a covenant with David, He has made a covenant with us through Jesus Christ. The new covenant assures us of forgiveness, eternal life, and the presence of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives. We can trust that God will bring our salvation to fruition through the work of Jesus on the Cross.
David’s charge to Solomon in 1 Kings 2:1-10 is not only for Solomon’s benefit but for the generations to come. Obedience to God’s commands leads to prosperity, both in personal endeavors and the legacy we leave behind. Solomon’s reign was marked by peace and prosperity, a testament to his obedience to God. However, it was also marked by eventual spiritual decline due to disobedience (1 Kings 11:1-13). This highlights the importance of an ongoing commitment to God’s ways and trusting in the covenant He established.
Final thought: God’s promises are steadfast, even in the face of adversity and our disobedience.
