Devotional written by Drew Walton, High School Pastor

Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Matthew 4:23

Key Concepts:

  1. Teaching and Proclaiming: Jesus actively engaged in teaching about the kingdom of God and proclaiming the good news of salvation.
  2. Healing the Sick: Jesus demonstrated God’s compassion and power by healing diseases and sicknesses.

In Matthew 4:23, we catch a glimpse of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee. He wasn’t simply a passive figure but was actively engaged with people’s lives. He taught in synagogues and proclaimed the transformative message of God’s kingdom. His teaching wasn’t just about information. It was about revelation of God’s truth that changes hearts and lives.

Jesus also demonstrated God’s kingdom through healing. He didn’t just preach about compassion; He showed it by restoring health and wholeness to the sick and suffering. In doing this, He revealed the tangible love and power of God.

Application: What does it look like for us to live out Matthew 4:23 today? First, it involves engaging with others through teaching and proclamation. This isn’t restricted to formal settings like synagogues or churches but encompasses our everyday interactions—sharing the gospel through words and actions that reflect God’s truth and grace.

Living out Matthew 4:23 also means living out God’s compassion and healing power in our community around us. This could mean praying for the sick, offering comfort to the hurting, or extending practical help to those in need. As followers of Christ, we are called to be vessels of His healing love, bringing hope and healing wherever we go. As saved people, we are called to serve people.

Final Thought: As you reflect on Matthew 4:23, consider how you can actively participate in sharing God’s truth and demonstrate His love in practical ways. Ask God to show you opportunities to teach and proclaim His kingdom, and use you as an instrument of His healing and compassion.

Take a moment to pray for someone in need of healing—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Ask God to show you how you can be a channel of His love and healing in their life.
