Calvary Special Needs Ministry seeks to present the Gospel of Jesus to individuals and families affected by disability through friendship, fellowship, and intentionally designed ministry tools.

Sunday Morning

Due to COVID-19, we are not gathering at Calvary on Sunday mornings. For live-stream info, or to attend Saturday evening service, please visit the main page. If you would like to receive our weekly ministry communications, email adam.rinehart@calvarywestlake.org.

Classroom 2110
is open every Sunday at the 9am and 11am services. Each week, we do our best to provide one-on-one buddies for each child. All of our buddies are trained, and those over 18 are fingerprinted and background checked. During each service, we do a Bible lesson, video, integrated worship with other classes, outside time on our adapted playground, and crafts. If you are interested in these services simply show up and we will accommodate your needs to the best of our ability! It is our joy to spend time with your children each week!

Buddy Integration is also an option for your child. If you desire, we will send a buddy with your child to any of the typical Sunday morning classrooms in children’s ministry, middle school ministry, or high school ministry. To connect your child with a Buddy, please stop by room 2110 before the start of the service.

Adult Small Group is designed for adults with special needs over the age of 30. This group meets every Sunday at 10:30am to review content from sermons, study Scripture, and enjoy food together.

For more information or questions about Sunday programs, please contact gina.spivey@calvarywestlake.org or adam.rinehart@calvarywestlake.org. *Room 2110 and buddies are NOT available for Saturday evening services

Buddy Break
is a free respite program designed to provide fun activities for kids and teens with special needs (VIPs) and their siblings! Our heart is to form friendships with all of the VIPs and siblings, and to offer a time of rest for parents and caregivers. VIPs and siblings are paired with trained buddies

Midweek

Awana4Me
is a Wednesday evening program for kids who may require the help of a buddy to participate in activities, listen to Scripture lessons, and memorize Bible verses. Our heart is to spiritually invest in each child. We believe that all children are able to learn more about who Jesus is and what He has done for them. We intentionally adapt lessons and create PEC cards to aid in scripture memorization. Throughout each week, parents are able to help their children memorize verses and review the Bible lesson.

Each week, we meet in room 2110 from 6:00 – 7:15pm. During the evening, we combine with other classes for worship and games, and then we have our own specialized Bible story, craft, and Scripture memory time.

Registration
: Awana runs from early September through late April. If you have any questions about our Awana4Me program, please contact Adam Rinehart: adam.rinehart@calvarywestlake.org

The “Bible Street Boys” is a small group of young adult men who meet every Tuesday for a time of fellowship. During this time, we catch up on each others’ weeks, do a Bible study, have prayer time, and play a game. Occasionally, we will go on fun outings (such as bowling or a movie).

This is an incredible group of young men who are seeking to learn more about God, and grow together in community. If you know anyone who might be interested in joining this group, please let us know by emailing Gina Spivey: gina.spivey@calvarywestlake.org.

Siblings

Sibling hangouts
are designed for typically developing kids who have a sibling affected by disability. The heart and passion behind these events came from Gina’s husband, Dennis, who himself has a sibling with a disability. In his words:

“Gina and I have been talking and praying about a way to get a group of us together to simply hang out, have fun, make new friends, and share our experiences.  I think it can be helpful to interact with others who know what it’s like to have a brother or sister with special needs. We decided to start by coordinating some simple, fun events specifically aimed at all of us who have this in common, and we’d like you to come! I’d like to point out that this is not meant to be a “support group,” and that having a sibling with a special need is a blessing!  It has its challenges and tough days, but speaking from experience I can tell you it also gives a zest to life that most don’t get the chance to experience.”

Please consider joining us for these fun events! If you would like to participate, know of anyone who may be interested in this opportunity, or if you have any ideas for how we could grow in this area, please contact adam.rinehart@calvarywestlake.org.
