"Slow to Anger" August 3, 2022
Then the Lord came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the Lord. And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Exodus 34:5-6 NIV
Have you ever wondered why these “last days” seem to be lasting so long? Well, Exodus 34 may have an answer to that.
In chapter 33, Moses asks the Lord to show Him His glory, and He responds by hiding him in the cleft of a rock, and then goes on to “declare” His glory to Moses. When I think about the glory of God, I think about His power, His sovereignty, His foreknowledge, and blinding light! My mind does not go to being “slow to anger.”
For our benefit, Jesus tarries in His return. The glory of God revealed in His patience towards us gives us an image of how we are to live with one another. If we are to be people who reflect the glory of God, then we need to be people who are slow to anger.
We can be passionately patient with people because our God is passionately patient with us.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for your steadfast love towards me. Help me be slow to anger as I reflect your glory to those around me. Amen
