SHAME AND SORROW
Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes.
Proverbs 6:25

Foolish mistakes sometimes negate the greatest victories. David’s great success had made it possible for him to enjoy all the comforts of royal life. No longer did he need to be in the field of combat since Joab provided capable leadership, and there were no more immediate severe threats to the kingdom. It was in these circumstances that David’s significant failure occurred. It was tragic that such a brilliant career would be marred in this manner; however, it is well known that Satan is most effective in his approaches when the believer is comfortable and successful.
Craving or lusting is more than inappropriate sexual desire. It can be an unnatural or greedy desire for anything (sports, knowledge, possessions, influence over others.) When you have become preoccupied with something or someone until it affects your perspective on everything else, you have moved from desire to lust.
Reflection: Ask God to help you change your desires before you are drawn into sin.
