Meet our executive leadership team & elders

Brian Howard, Senior Pastor

Pastor Brian first came to Calvary in 2007, serving as a volunteer small group leader in our High School Ministry. In 2010, he began as a summer intern and then served in various student ministry roles before becoming the High School Pastor in 2012. After a remarkable 7 years of growth and momentum in our High School Ministry, Brian transitioned out of the High School Pastor role in 2019 and into the role of Teaching Pastor, where he continued to teach, lead, and shape the ministry of our church.

In 2022, after 18 months of interviews and prayer, the elders announced a multi-year succession plan, which would result in Pastor Brian becoming the Senior Pastor of Calvary. In March 2025, Pastor Shawn Thornton formally passed the leadership baton to Brian. As the Senior Pastor, Brian serves as 1) the primary voice of the pulpit, 2) the main vision-caster, and 3) the shepherd of shepherds. His passion for the Word of God, heart for evangelism, love for the church, and clarity of communication continue to be an encouragement to the Calvary family.

Brian graduated with his Masters of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2015 and in 2016 was ordained to the Gospel ministry by the elders of Calvary Community Church. Brian and his wife Dani have been married since 2013 and have three children, Grace, Noah, and Hope.

Jason McMaster, Executive Pastor

In July 2022, Jason rejoined the Calvary staff. Jason first served Calvary as an intern in middle school ministry in 1998, then as our middle school pastor, college pastor, and the internship director, prior to joining the elder board for 6 years. Jason has a master’s and a doctorate in education from Cal Lutheran University. From 2018 to 2022, Jason served as the Head of School at Landmark Christian in Atlanta, Georgia, and previously worked for 18 years at Oaks Christian School as a founding teacher, dean of academics, creator of the Learning Center, and Associate Head of School. Jason is excited to build into every ministry and help increase the Lord’s impact through Calvary in the Conejo Valley and beyond. He and his wife Jenny have been married since 2000 and have three daughters, Kaley, Ally, Mary, and one international son, Baffour.

Gina Spivey, Family Ministries Pastor

Pastor Gina Spivey is a 4th generation member of Calvary. She and her family have been a part of Calvary since 1998. She earned her BA in Child Psychology with a minor in Special Education in 2004 from Loyola Marymount University and her Master’s in Applied Biblical Leadership from Western Seminary in 2025. Prior to coming on staff she served for 14 years as an Early Intervention Specialist in South Central, Los Angeles. She served as our Special Abilities Ministry Pastor/Director from 2014-2021 when she began service as our Family Ministries Pastor. She oversees the areas of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Special Abilities Ministries. She is passionate about helping families know and love the opportunity to disciple their children and loves serving the body with resources, events and pastoral care for all families. She remains passionate about the importance of integration and support for the Special Abilities community. She is married to her college sweetheart, Dennis and has two wonderful kids: Payton and Dominick.

Brian Field, Missions Pastor

Brian has been part of Calvary’s staff since 2008 working in the Missions ministry. In January 2015, he joined the Executive Team as the Missions Pastor. Brian oversees Calvary’s mission outreach both into the local community and ministry partnerships around the world. He is passionate about seeing lives transformed by the power of the Gospel and helping mobilize the Church into reaching the lost, poor and marginalized for Christ. Brian grew up at Calvary and after graduating from UCLA, Brian served for several years as a missionary for Youth With A Mission in Townsville, Australia, where he met his Canadian wife Carmell, also on staff with YWAM. They have been married since 2006 and have four children.

Dick Thompson, Seasoned Adults Pastor

In 2020, Dick joined Calvary’s staff to minister to our senior adults. After serving five years at a church in North Palm Beach, Florida primarily among seniors, Dick believes our Seasoned Adults Ministry has a mission to “leverage the wisdom of adults 60+ to live and love like Jesus.” Dick also served as senior pastor at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Westlake Village for 19 years. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. (1981) and has a Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary (1980) and a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary (1994). Dick has been married to Suzanne since 1976 and loves to hang out with their daughter and grandson.

Hannah Wasmundt, Worship Director

In January 2021, Hannah joined the Calvary staff as the Associate Director of Special Abilities. As a mother of two daughters with special needs, her passion and love for the Special Abilities community is unparalleled. She has been leading the parent support group since joining the Calvary staff and will continue to do so as she executes her role as Director of Worship. Prior to joining Calvary, she spent over 20 years in full time ministry as a worship leader. She has travelled all over the United States and other parts of the world leading people in worship. She is passionate about creating space in worship where people can encounter God in a way that is personal, transformative, and unhindered by barriers. Her heart is to cultivate an atmosphere of openness and authenticity, where every person – regardless of their background or abilities – can experience His presence. She is married to her husband, Joel, and they have 3 beautiful girls.

Loretta Peña, Adult Discipleship & Small Groups Pastor

Originally from Texas, Loretta has been part of the Calvary family since 2006. She served as a table leader in the launch of the original Calvary Discipleship Classes, and in 2018, after two decades in the banking industry, Loretta joined our staff as the Director of Adult Ministries. She is passionate about seeing people find deep, meaningful relationships with the Lord, grow stronger in their faith, experience significant relationships with others, and be empowered to live out God’s purposes for their lives. Loretta is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Biblical and Theological Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary. She and her husband, Jimmy, have been married since 1995 and founded PrayFit Ministries together in 2009.

Michael Field, Communications Director & Young Adults Pastor

Michael is passionate about creating spaces where people understand the overwhelming love and grace of Jesus in their life. He has been in some form of ministry since he first worked at Calvary as a worship leader for the High School group back in 2000. Michael served as Director of High School Ministries at Forest Home Camps and Teaching & Executive Pastor at Fellowship Monrovia. He currently serves as Communications Director and is the Pastor of Young Adults at Calvary. He completed his Masters of Theology at Fuller Theological Seminary in Spring of 2026 and has been married since 2010 to the best person he knows, his wife Faith.

Steve Day, Care Pastor

Steve has been serving as Calvary’s Care Pastor since 2001. He oversees all aspects of Care ministries including counseling, support and recovery groups, marriage preparation, memorials, benevolence, and the 24/7 minister-on-call program. Steve did his post graduate work at Fuller Theological Seminary and has an M.A. in Church Leadership from Hope International University. Steve helped plant a church in Scottsdale, Arizona, served as a founding pastor in Moorpark, California for sixteen years, and also ministered as the Coordinating Chaplain for the Ventura County Fire Department for twelve years. Steve is a ministry team builder with a heart to help people find hope and healing through Jesus. He has been married to Allyson since 1981 and has four children and three grandchildren.
