REMEMBER GOD’S GOODNESS

To read today:  Psalm 77:10-13

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

Psalm 77:11

Psalm 77 takes a turn in v.10, where the Psalmist uses the word “then.” He has turned toward God and listed his complaints, but then he moves past them and considers God’s goodness. This is a key insight for us when it comes to lament. Lament is not meant to be an endless list of complaints without resolution. The complaints are meant to be a middle step that leads us to faith in God’s goodness and trust in God’s promises. This separates a prayer of lament from a simple list of grievances against God.

As you work through your grief, remind yourself of the goodness of God. He is the creator of all things, the sustainer of all things, the redeemer of your soul, and the Father of your heart. Remind yourself that His goodness is not based on your circumstances or feelings but rather on His character and nature. Read through the Psalms to understand how Israel would sing about the goodness of God even in the midst of sorrow.

For Today: List 4 reasons that God is good!
