Planned Spontaneity

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing.

Acts 8: 39

Sometimes our greatest spiritual cheerleaders exit our lives here on earth. It could be geographical as in the case of Philip, illness, or some other type of departure. Whilst we may have a healthy attachment to a Godly mentor, I believe we need to hold each relationship loosely and understand that there are seasons in life that ebb and flow within divine providence.

The person who led you to Christ in Middle School for instance, may have moved out of your life, but I am fairly certain you will never forget that mountain top experience. Ecclesiastes says there is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens (chapter 3 v1). I believe we should cherish each experience and hold them loosely without constantly trying to recreate the glory days. This way we can grow in our faith like the eunuch, who went on rejoicing when Philip was taken away by the Spirit of the Lord.

Lord, we thank you for the incredible men and women of God who have been instrumental in leading us to You. Please help us to hold tightly to you and hold the things on this earth loosely. May we be solely reliant on You. Amen
