Prayer Truths

One day when Jesus was praying in a certain place, one of His disciples said to Him “Lord teach us to pray just as John taught his disciples…”

Luke 11:1

Ok, pretend you’re a Disciple.  You don’t want Jesus to teach you to sing, dance, preach or heal the sick – you want Him to teach you to pray.  Incidentally, this is the only such request of its kind in the entire New Testament. As any good teacher of today would do, Jesus’ first instruction to us might be to “Google it,” so I did.  In 0.56 seconds, there were 1.2 BILLION hits. I thought “is it that complicated?” For reference, I Googled Quantum Physics (255 million hits) and Neurosurgery (145 million hits).

Over the next few days, let’s try to uncomplicate this important, relevant, and vital Spiritual discipline.  Start with some simple and straightforward facts about prayer from Scripture. God expects us to pray (Hebrews 4:12-16),  Prayer works (James 5:16).  Jesus is praying with us (Hebrews 7:24-25).  We should expect results (Acts, 12:5-17). Don’t give up praying (Matthew 7:7) because God WANTS to answer our prayers (Hebrews11:6).

See, there is really nothing difficult to understand or comprehend in these verses. Our role and the application for us is to simply both pray AND believe.
