Pray with Joy – April 9, 2024

Tuesday, April 9

Devotional written by Curtis Johnson, Adult Ministry Pastor

“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:4-6

Read Philippians 1:4-6

This is the first of many times Paul used the word joy in his letter. The Philippians were ministry partners with Paul, and he remembered them with joy and thanksgiving whenever he prayed. By helping Paul, they were helping Christ’s cause. The Philippians first heard the gospel about ten years earlier when Paul and his companions visited Philippi (during Paul’s second missionary journey) and founded the church there.

I have visited some of Calvary’s missionary partners over the years. I went twice to Uganda to lead service projects, teach, and examine capital projects Calvary had funded. In those years and the years that followed, our relationship with our ministry partners grew deeper and more long-lasting. The same is true for me with visits to Ukraine and our ministry partners there. In all these trips, I have met heroes of our faith who have demonstrated tireless acts of sacrifice and devotion to the will of God in their settings. When I pray for these ministry partners and their work, it is easy to pray with joy for them.

As my overseas travel has slowed, our relationships with some of the ministry partners have grown as we found additional ways to support and encourage them in these challenging times.

For today: What comes to mind when you think of our ministry partners? Do you remember them with joy?
