Planned Spontaneity

As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down to the water and Philip baptized him.

Acts 8:36-38

This particular passage ignites the creative passion in my heart because there is an explosive excitement in the eunuch. There is an enthusiastic reaction where he perceives his immediate surroundings through the eyes of new faith in Christ. God had a plan for this moment from the inception of time and yet the visceral response “to some water” v36 may seem spontaneous.

Have you been in situations where you are so certain that the Holy Spirit is moving in your heart where it seems like your heart and mind collide and you need to seize a situation? It feels like poetic chaos, but it is completely ordered by the grace of God. I strongly identify with this from my background in songwriting. There are things I have observed with my heart that have caused a stirring to an expression of faith through song. I was somehow aware of my surroundings which reflected an expression of my love for Christ. One could say these instances caused me to “stop the chariot.”

Do you need to stop your chariot and look up from your day-to-day life? Let us lift our eyes so we can experience each treasure from Heaven given to us on earth.
