Peace of God
Scripture to read today: Philippians 4:4-9
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7
When I think things are not going well, I’ll feel a bit anxious. I’ll fight the need to worry when there are things I can’t control. Maybe this cycle is normal for you as well.
A quick Google search on, “Peace of God” directs us to Philippians 4:7, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,” is the harmony and calmness of body, mind, and spirit that supersedes earthly circumstances. Throughout scripture, we find that peace is defined as a blessing from God and harmonious with His character. The peace of God can be described as a tranquil state of appreciation and faith when we submit to and trust the commandments of God and Christ. It requires a mixture of humility and courage to experience God’s peace, seeking beyond the mere abilities of our own understanding.
If God is inherently peaceful, then to appreciate God is to live in His peace. The nearer we move to Him, the more of His peace we can experience.
The greatest feeling of strength always seems to come from God’s peace. I visualize His peace, from above, being poured out and over me. This visual is often my prayer when I ask God to give people His peace; May he pour it out and over them.
Ask God to pour His peace over you as you lay your worries before Him in prayer.
