Devotional written by Pastor Jason McMaster, Executive Pastor
OUR FOCUS IS JESUS
I was blessed to know David Price, one of the co-founders of Oaks Christian School. He recently passed away, but his impact and legacy will live on for many years. The David I knew and loved was an incredible man who lived with sincere passion and enthusiasm for the people he encountered. I don’t think he lived by conventional rules and found fun in everything he did and made sure we all had fun with him. David made those around him feel like they were the most important people in his life. He walked through life, making mundane tasks seem like thrilling adventures. I enjoyed watching him go through life with a joyful smile. He loved the Lord and genuinely loved others.
During an early training session for faculty and staff, he invited a chaplain named Bart Tarman (from Westmont University) to share. Bart encouraged the team to “keep the main thing the main thing.” He meant that the team was to keep Christ the main thing at all times. He explained that the school would encounter all kinds of perspectives, political leanings, and religious denominational differences, but one thing he emphasized was that Jesus Christ was the center. I recall having many conversations with David, where I asked for advice. He would answer, “Jason, keep the main thing the main thing.” It was great advice, and I still use it today. I am forever grateful for his impact on my life.
Final Thought: As we head into another election season, let’s keep the focus on Jesus. As we enter into conversations with others that get polarized for any reason, take a step back and remember: Keep the main thing the main thing.
