LOVE THAT TRANSFORMS
We love because he first loved us.
1 John 4:19

1 John 4:19 reminds us that we love because God first loved us. The love we share with others is not our own but comes from God. As we make disciples and love people, we are not just sharing a message, but we are sharing the transforming power of God’s love. When people encounter the love of God, their lives are changed forever. Let’s make sure that we are not just sharing information but that we are sharing the love of God that has the power to transform hearts and lives.
Jesus didn’t give the words in Matthew 28 just to his disciples. Nor are they just for pastors and missionaries today. This is the command for every follower of Jesus. We are called to make disciples. It doesn’t mean we have to go across the sea. A good start may be loving our neighbor more or, in our case, the parking lot here at Calvary on Tuesdays.
Far too many of us look at the Great Commission’s meaning and think someone is better at it; I’ll mess it up. The Great Commission is not just a suggestion we’re commanded to do; it is what Jesus expects us to do.
At this point, I’m writing this as much to myself as to whoever is reading this. I am much more of a take-action person and can get caught up in the “doing.”
I recently had the opportunity to talk with a very broken and hurting individual who comes to Fresh Market. As we formed a relationship, I was able to share my testimony. I firmly believe that as we serve and come alongside others, Jesus will equip us to speak up about our faith and tell others about the good news of Jesus Christ!
Reflection: Go, and love more people. In doing so, speak up about Jesus!
