Liberation! - January 31, 2023

Devotional written by Pastor Troy Thornton, Developoment Pastor
When my kids were still small (now in their 20s) and had just begun walking, they did not enjoy being held as much. I remember their wiggling and wrangling to be “put down” when we held them. They desperately wanted to use the new skill that afforded them a newfound liberty. Not entirely unlike believers. We have the wonderful blessing of liberty; this is a big deal.
Since the fall of man, the natural process of creation has been bondage and decay. We are born bonded to sin and its consequence – death. Spiritual deadness leads to separation from the lover and creator of our souls. This death, if not remedied by grace, becomes eternal separation. However, God saw fit to extend His grace through Jesus and allow us to be liberated. This liberty is experienced both in the here and now right into eternity.
Why do we then go back into the sin from which we have been liberated? Let’s live in the freedom and glory of being a child of God!
TODAY: Move forward from sin and live in liberty. Spend time in confession with God.
