IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU
To read today: Colossians 1:15-18
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
In Rick Warren’s book, The Purpose Driven Life, his opening sentence reads, “It’s not about you.” The Bible teaches us that it is all about Jesus. As a whole, the Old Testament stories point to Him, and the New Testament authors speak to His life, His teachings, His death, His burial, His resurrection, and His glorious return. In the passage above, the apostle Paul is clear that all things have been made by Him and for Him. Therefore, if we are looking for purpose and meaning in life, we must look first to the Lord.
The Lord intentionally created each of us, and we were created for Him. We were each created in His image, and yet, not one of us is the same. As image bearers, our worth is found in the Lord. Similar to a highly valued collectible baseball card, it is the image on the card that drives the value. There are plenty of other cards made out of the same material from the same year, but a Babe Ruth rookie card has significant worth because of the image on the card. We have different personalities, unique skill sets, and distinct characteristics that make us His unique creations. And He loves each of us! Since we were purposefully created for Him, it is only in God that we can discover our identity, our purpose, and our significance in this life. It’s not about us; it’s all about Jesus.
Final Thought: Walk through the day confidently knowing that you are God’s purposeful creation, made by Him and for Him. He thought of us infinitely long before we ever thought of Him. We make many choices in our lives, but the Lord determined when we were born, to whom we were born, the talents He gave us, and the purpose for our lives…and it’s all for Him.
