IN RESPONSE TO HIS LOVE

To read today:   Romans 8

Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might,  while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

2 Samuel 6:14-15

David knew the goodness of God and was free to respond wholeheartedly. He chose to dance with all his might before the God who so wonderfully worked on his behalf.

Romans Chapter 8 speaks to our hearts, calling attention to the reality of God’s work on our behalf.

A slave acts out of obligation, but the free man out of love. What a lovely God we behold. There are endless beauties, adventures, and joys discoverable in God. Truth begins and ends in God. Imagination originates in God. Justice emanates from God. Kindness pours out of God. Power radiates from God. Laughter was invented by God. Compassion is seen in the Father, empathy in Christ, spontaneity in the Holy Spirit, and LOVE in all of Him. And nothing can come between us and this amazing Love. In Christ, we are set free from the bondage of sin, death, and the law. We are free, and as a freed person, the obvious response to such loveliness – as is found in God – is to love Him back. Love fulfills the law. Law = external devotion, Love = internal transformation.

Reflection: What is your response to the sin in your life? What is your response to Jesus’ death (because of your sin), burial (taking on your condemnation), and resurrection (to give you hope and a future)? As you go about today, preach the gospel to yourself. Remind yourself that He died for you, was condemned for you, and extends to you an unmerited promise of eternally restored life with Him.
