If It is Big Enough to Be a Worry
To read today: Ephesians 6:10-20
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Ephesians 6:20
Growing up, I remember seeing a sticky note my mother had up on her desk in our living room. It read, “If it is big enough to be a worry, it is big enough to be a prayer.” It is only years later – with a wife, 3 children, a job, a mortgage, and a host of other life challenges – that I realize how beautiful that message was. God invites us to bring “all kinds of prayers and requests” before Him, not just the ones we think are “big enough” for him to care about.
If you are worried about getting stuck in traffic and being late to work, pray about it. If you are concerned that something you said in a meeting may have been taken the wrong way, pray about it. If you are irritated that the Wi-Fi isn’t working fast enough for you to get something done, pray about that, too. There is no prayer that is too small, and no issue that God thinks is beneath him. The problem for most of us is not that we pray about things that are too little, it’s that we pray too little. And if I am going to err when it comes to prayer, I would rather err on the side of praying about too many things rather than too few.
Sometimes the best way to do this is to write down everything you are worried about. Don’t leave a single thing out, even if it seems small and petty. When I write it all out, it is out of my head, and I can hold up that paper before the Lord and say, “This, Lord, is what I am worried about, and I trust You with all of it!” I hope you do that today and see what God does with your worries and cares.
Final Thought: Write down every worry you have and make it your prayer list today!
