HOLINESS OF THE LORD
To read today: Zephaniah 1:8-14
At that time, I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are complacent, who are like wine left on its dregs, who think, “The LORD will do nothing, good or bad.”
Zephaniah 1:12

Zephaniah emphasizes the holiness of God throughout this book. In verse 12, we read that the Lord is a jealous and avenging God who will punish all who worship false gods. The people of Judah had become complacent in their worship of God and had turned to worldly customs, lifestyles, and other forms of worship. Zephaniah was sent to remind them of the holiness of God and the seriousness of their sin…a call to repentance.
This month, our elementary ministry focuses on the idea that what we say and do will reflect how we view others and God. If we are made in the image of God (“imago dei”), then we are a direct reflection of the holiness of God. Remember that truth and strive to live in a way that honors and glorifies Him. We must turn away from the things that displease Him and seek to live pure and holy lives.
Final Thought: In what ways are your words or actions not reflective of the “holiness of God?” How can you turn from those ways and seek to glorify Him?
