HIGH POINT FOR DAVID

To read today:  2 Samuel 10

If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you are to come to my rescue; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will come to rescue you. Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our god. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.

2 Samuel 10:11-12

There must be a balance in life between our actions and our faith in God. David said, “Let us fight bravely.” In other words, they should do what they can, using their minds to figure out the best techniques and use of their resources. But he also said, “The Lord will do what is good in his sight.” He knew the outcome was in God’s hands.

Within a few years, David took an insignificant nation and built it into a mighty kingdom. Under the leadership of David, the Kingdom of Israel rapidly transformed, not into a global empire but into perhaps the most powerful, single kingdom on earth at the time.

These previous few chapters of 2 Samuel record the high point for David. And sadly, it’s right here, amid God’s blessing, that things go terribly wrong, beginning in Chapter 11.

Final thought:  We should use our minds and resources to obey God, while at the same time trusting God for the outcome. I like to think, that it is as if God chooses to partner with us to achieve His outcome. He seeks to partner with the humble, utilizing the spiritual gifts, talents, and resources He has bestowed on us.
