Every year in the United States, we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a day dedicated to a corporal pause for reflection on things for which we should be thankful. We are “giving thanks” on this special day for a year’s blessings. Unfortunately, the word “give” often stops with a verbal expression of thanks.
The Bible teaches us that being thankful, or grateful, should lead us to the act of giving of our resources. When Jesus was traveling and sharing the Good News of the Kingdom, people responded by giving “to support them out of their own means” (Luke 8:3). These women were giving in response to what the Good News did in their lives. They were grateful people who gave. As followers of Jesus, we should be grateful for what the Gospel has done in our lives. This should translate into giving to the work of the Gospel at our church.
Reflection: Does your gratitude translate into giving?
