Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?
The story of Job is a treasure trove of insights into human suffering and the sovereignty of God. Near the beginning of the story, when Job goes through a time of deep suffering, his wife breaks down and, in her grief, tells him to “curse God and die!” His response is as insightful as it is powerful, “Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?” Centuries later it is an important question for us to consider.
Our worship will be directly connected to what we think we deserve from God. If you think you deserve perfect health, a good family, happiness in life, and salvation for eternity then you are unlikely to burst forth with worship. But, if you see that you don’t deserve and haven’t earned any of those things, your heart will explode with praise for what you have because you realize that everything you have is a gift from God.
Thank God for the things He has given you.
