Devotional written by Pastor Gina Spivey, Family Ministries Pastor

To read today:

Psalm 20, Exodus 13:21-22, 2 Corinthians 12:9, Psalm 34:1, and Genesis 29

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and correctly handles the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 NIV

This weekend our guest speaker, Elizabeth Mitchel, shared the idea of God using His people to accomplish His great work. She shared the truth of God’s ability to see our broken lives and imperfect stories and still use us to accomplish incredible works on earth. Each day this week, we will examine a story in Scripture where God uses a flawed woman in powerful, impactful ways.

Each of us has a role in the lives of the church today. Each of us has a role in our families, communities, and world! Ministry is not a job for those who work at a church but for all who call upon the name of the Lord. As it says in 2 Timothy, we are workers who need not be ashamed. Our past sins do not discount us from ministry in our sphere of influence. Each story we will read this week is covered in sin and shame. There are mistakes at every turn, yet they are some of the most called upon and referenced stories of God’s faithfulness and mighty work. The Scripture is chock-full of men and women who doubted how the Lord could and would use them, yet He did just that. Be encouraged today that you, too, have great gifting to offer those around you in Jesus’ name.

Reflection: What has prevented you from allowing the Lord to use your story? Ask Him to bring you peace and confidence to accomplish all He has wired you for, at such a time as this.
