GOD MEANT IT TO BE SERIOUS

The disciples said to him, “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”

The very contentious subject of divorce has been and will be debated until Jesus returns. This daily “Take5” devotional does not intend to solve this issue. Matthew 19 tells us that God takes the union of marriage and, subsequently, the family very seriously. Many believers have experienced the difficulty of divorce. Whether the experience was a child of divorce or a marriage that ended that way, it is painful. The pain comes from various emotions and feelings.
God also takes this pain and struggle seriously. When people who have experienced divorce see a verse like Matthew 19:10, they may feel like God is angry with them, almost like they are wearing a scarlet “D” on their chest. But God cares very deeply about the people and the emotions surrounding the pain of divorce. God does not ignore or give up on those impacted by divorce and the family pain it causes. He seriously pursues them. This is what God does. He is serious about people. Believers should respond in kindness and seriously pursue the hurting.
Reflection: Find someone in your life to pursue with God’s grace.
