GOD CAN SATISFY OUR DEEPEST LONGINGS
To read today: Psalm 63
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Psalm 63:1

The warning in Saul’s story tells us the importance of reflecting on our own character flaws and how they can harm us and others. We see the need to humble ourselves and deal with our dark side with God’s help. David is presented as an example of patience and trust in God’s timing in our lives. As Saul chased him, David had every reason to think God abandoned him, but he didn’t. His story encourages us to trust that, despite human evil, God is working out His purpose to oppose the proud and exalt the humble.
Psalm 63, written during the time when David was running and hiding from Saul, gives us a glimpse of David’s singular focus while being challenged with loneliness and insecurity. In hiding, David declares, “You are my God,” while continually seeking and longing for Him. David remembers earlier times when God revealed His power and glory and how God’s love and support upheld him. Recognizing all God has done, David is encouraged to praise the Lord despite his current circumstances.
Final thought: During your most difficult circumstances, what will you recall of the Lord’s power and glory?
