I have a friend whom I have known for 30 years.  We have great conversations about life and our common faith.  He often says that “being a Christian is an applied science.”  What he means is that as we follow Jesus, our faith is an active participatory process.

What we see from Paul in this passage is that he has work assigned to him to do for the Lord (Acts s20: 22).  What does this mean for us?  It is simple – we are to serve.  Our life as a follower of Jesus is one of service.  This will take the effort of giving our time to serve.  We are called to do good to everyone, but our emphasis is the church (Gal 6:10).  One of the foundations of Calvary’s Vision 2030 is service (some may call it volunteering) at, and with, our Church.  We all need to find a ministry at Calvary where we can faithfully contribute our time and skills as a servant.
