Give Your Best to Be On Watch
All branches of the military have some form of what is called, “watch.” People are assigned from time-to-time to be “on watch.” When you are “on watch”, it is your job to watch over an area, equipment, and at times your comrades. It is the watchmen’s responsibility to literally watch out for the well-being of their fellow servicemen.
We have a similar responsibility within the Body of Christ. Paul tells the Ephesian elders to “keep watch over yourselves and the flock” (Acts 20:28). Certainly, Elders have on overall responsibility to care for the church (the flock). However, the principle (and responsibility) applies to all believers. We keep watch over ourselves by knowing God’s Word and applying it to our lives. It is quite literally aligning our attitudes and conduct to Scripture.
We also are tasked with encouraging and admonishing other members of the flock to do the same. This does not mean that we are to go around judging others. It does mean that believers are to hold each other accountable to Scripture. One of the hallmarks of Vison 2030 is that we, as a church body, would know and love God’s word. Believers must live in step with Scripture and live in community with each other as we live it out.
FOR TODAY: Take the next step to deepen your time in the Word and in the Calvary community.
