Give
Read today:
Remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.
Acts 20:35b
I have heard people say that where we spend our money reveals what is important to us. This certainly makes sense and echoes the words of Jesus, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matt 6:21). Jesus also said, “It is more blessed to give than receive” (Acts 20:35b). These verses and the principle they teach often make us uncomfortable. Giving is a sensitive subject for many. It really is a litmus test of the heart.
Where we invest our finances does indeed show where our heart is. Personal finances and money are just that – personal. Yet, we as believers are called to give. Giving is a principle all over Scripture. Jesus focused quite a bit of time on it. What does this mean in the context of church? The context of Calvary? Giving is how ministry, Kingdom work, is fueled. It is upon the members of the Body of Christ (all of us), to fuel God’s work through His church.
Though Calvary leadership never asks individuals to give certain amounts, or percentages, we do believe that all should participate through giving. We want everyone at our church to experience the blessings that flow from growing in generosity. What that means in terms of amounts, etc. is up to each believer as they seek to do what God would have for them. The goals of Calvary’s Vision 2030 will require ministry fuel. It will require that we give.
FOR TODAY: Ask God what He would have you give.
