FAMILIAR TEMPTATION

How quickly this story is shifting. Where we left off, Joseph was being praised for his faithfulness, and now we are on the brink of the part of the story where the script flips.

We tend to fall into the same patterns of sin. Some of us are prone to anger, others to lust, and still others to lying. Yet the familiarity of our sins, in and of itself, can be a snare we entangle ourselves in. Potiphar’s wife tempts Joseph repeatedly. Joseph refuses, citing loyalty to both Potiphar and God. Notice his clear moral reasoning and decisive refusal. He does not negotiate with this sin or promise himself he will deal with it later. He separates himself.

Temptation often increases with familiarity and opportunity. Plan your “no,” set clear boundaries, take sin seriously from the start, and remember whom you serve. Decide in advance how you will respond to temptation and never waver.

Prayer: Father, when temptation comes, quickly remind me whom I serve. Grant me the courage and clarity to say “no,” even to familiar sin patterns in my life. Amen.
