Elder Candidate: Donnie Flaig
Donnie Flaig and his wife, Stacy, have been married for 26 years. They have an amazing daughter together, Raven (21), who is a senior at Grand Canyon University and is expected to graduate this spring. Donnie and Stacy were raised in the San Fernando Valley and have made Calabasas their home for more than 25 years. Donnie attended Los Angeles Baptist High School before earning his bachelor’s degree from USC in 1994. He went on to receive his J.D. (Juris Doctorate) from Southwestern University School of Law in 1997. Stacy graduated from Chatsworth High School, earned her degree in Psychology from CSUN, and later completed her master’s degree at National University. Donnie and Stacy met at the Church at Rocky Peak in 1997 and were married in 1999.
Donnie was blessed to grow up in a Christian home with two amazing parents and two older brothers. His walk with God was marked by many ups and downs until, over a decade ago, God, in His infinite love, chased him down, and Donnie fully surrendered his life to Christ and became a committed disciple. Stacy was raised in a Catholic home and came to truly know Jesus in her twenties while attending the Church at Rocky Peak. Together, Donnie and Stacy began attending Calvary in 2004, and about ten years ago, they stepped more deeply into serving and leadership.
Today, they lead a couple’s Bible study out of their home and each also leads a thriving small group—Donnie with men, and Stacy with women. They find great joy in serving together as a team in ministry. Donnie also serves as the Director of Calvary’s Men’s Ministry. Professionally, he is an attorney in Westlake Village, where he focuses on Estates/Trusts and Business Law.
Donnie considers it a true honor and privilege to be called to serve on the Elder Board at Calvary. He is eager to see what God has in store for the Church and prays to be a vessel of wisdom, led by the power of the Holy Spirit, as he faithfully fulfills this role. As a leader, Donnie’s desire is that his life reflects the heart of Jesus, as described in Matthew 20:26 & 28: “But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Elder Board Process
Calvary Community Church is governed by a Board of Elders. They are a group of biblically-qualified men who are selected to oversee the ministry and teaching of the church. The role of an Elder is to search God’s Word, seek God’s face, pray and fast together in order to guard and guide the church.
To become an Elder, names of potential candidates are submitted by staff, church leaders, and members of the Calvary family. The names are screened for qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, plus leadership, previous involvement at and commitment to Calvary, and the ability to work with others. Screened candidates are then interviewed and final candidates are invited to attend Elder meetings as an Elder intern.
After that time, the Elder candidate is presented to the Calvary Family for comments. Upon review of the comments and unanimous consent of the serving Elders, the Elder candidate will immediately begin serving on the Board of Elders.
