DAVID AND BATHSHEBA
To read today: 2 Samuel 11
One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful.
2 Samuel 11:2

David makes a fatal mistake – not fatal for him, but for a man named Uriah, one of David’s prized soldiers. From his rooftop, David sees Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba, bathing. David finds her, sleeps with her, and gets her pregnant. Then he tries to cover it up by having Uriah assassinated, marrying her as soon as she is widowed.
David could have chosen to stop and turn from sin at any time. But once sin gets started, it is difficult to control.
James 1:14-15 states, “But each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.”
Final thought: Isn’t it true, the deeper the mess, the less we want to admit having caused it? It is much easier to stop sliding down a hill when you are near the top than when you are halfway down. The best solution is to stop sin before it starts.
