ALL THINGS

To read today: Romans 8:28-30

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28 tells us that God works for the good of those who love him in “all things.” This is a staggering claim that should not be lost on us. God promises us that nothing happens in this universe that is not being worked for your good and His glory. This is true of good things that happen, or when something is done to you, or things you have done to others. The claim is not that everything is good but rather that everything is being worked for your good.

It means that this morning when I was driving into the office and got stuck in traffic, God was working that for my good. It means that last week when I was feeling a bit sick, God was working that for my good. It means that in a tough conversation, I had with a friend last month, God was working that for my good.

You may ask, “what could God possibly bring out of those lousy things for your good?” My answer is simple, “I have no idea, but God wouldn’t promise it if He didn’t mean it.” God has the desire and the capacity to do whatever He wants in my life; I know that there is not one moment that is wasted. Charles Spurgeon reminds us, “God is too good to be unkind, too wise to be mistaken; and when you cannot trace His hand, you can trust His heart.”

Final Thought: Thank God that He is working everything for your good and His glory!
