SEEKING WITH PATIENCE

As a Type A, Enneagram 8, workaholic problem-solver, I find unresolved conflict incredibly difficult. I need to close the loop, tie it with a bow, and move on. Sometimes that means pushing for resolution, which can create even more conflict and tension. Other times, I do the opposite and run from the person, trying to cut ties and “resolve” the issue that way. Out of sight, out of mind. I’m not proud of either option, but that is the truth.

The woman in the passage experiences the disappointment of not finding the person she loves. There is no immediate gratification, no clean solution. She searches but does not find the one she loves right away, and her longing remains unsatisfied.

Family relationships can be similar and often are. We may reach out and receive no reply. We may try to repair a relationship and find the other person needs time. We may apologize sincerely but still must wait for trust to return. Faithful love is patient. It does not give up after one unsuccessful attempt, nor does it force itself on another person. We can keep showing care, respect their boundaries, and wait patiently and prayerfully for reconciliation.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to love my family patiently. Help me remain faithful without becoming controlling or discouraged. Grant me wisdom to know when to reach out and when to give someone in my family space to heal or process. Amen.
