“You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.”

SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET

What skeletons are hiding in the closet of your mind, soul, or life?

There are things we regret, things we are ashamed of, habits we would rather no one knew about, wounds we have never dealt with, and thoughts we would never say out loud. So we learn to manage the outside. We close the door, leave these things in the darkness to fester, and hope the rot and decay will go unnoticed and somehow take care of itself.

The surprising thing about God is that He already knows what is in the closet.

Think about Jesus washing the disciples’ feet. The Creator of the universe kneels, takes His disciples’ dirty feet into His hands, and washes them. This is who our God is. He is not afraid of dirt. He is willing to humble Himself to meet us in our mess.

And if we open the door, Jesus is willing to do the dirty work in us too.

We spend so much energy hiding what God already sees. We paint the outside, tidy the room, and hope no one notices the smell coming from behind the door. But Jesus is not interested in helping us look clean. He wants to make us clean.

That requires vulnerability. It means opening the door and inviting Jesus into the places we would rather keep hidden.

But perhaps what is most unexpected about Him is this: when the door finally opens, we do not find Jesus standing there, disgusted.

We find Him with a scrub brush and a pail in hand, ready to get to work.

Final Thought: Open the door. Jesus already knows what is inside, and He is not afraid to clean it up.
