BE AVAILABLE

Peter and John weren’t looking for a miracle that afternoon. They were simply being faithful to what God had already called them to do. On their way to pray, they encountered someone whose life was about to change forever.

God often works through ordinary moments of obedience. We sometimes think ministry happens only on mission trips, in church services, or during planned outreach events. Yet many of God’s greatest opportunities arise as we are simply living, whether walking into work, standing in the grocery line, taking a morning walk, or serving at church.

Often, beyond money or talent, our greatest gift to give is our availability.

Author and missionary Katie Davis wrote, “I am just an ordinary person. An ordinary person serving an extraordinary God.” Katie’s words remind us that God isn’t looking for extraordinary people; He works through ordinary people willing to say yes.

When it comes to availability, I think of the hundreds of volunteers at Calvary who faithfully serve and show up. It may not be the encounter or the miracle that Peter and John experienced. However, remember and be encouraged that your availability may be someone’s “miracle” in their life.

Prayer: Lord, help me slow down enough to notice the people You place in my path today. May I be available for whatever You have for me.
