THE VOICE STRONGER THAN DEATH

There are some situations that feel beyond fixing.

A broken relationship.

A prodigal child.

A devastating diagnosis.

A dream that seems completely dead.

By the time Jesus arrives at Jairus’ house, professional mourners are already there. In the first-century Jewish culture, mourning began immediately after death, and these mourners helped express the depth of the family’s grief. Either way, everyone in the room believed the story was over.

But Jesus walks into the impossible and says, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

I don’t believe Jesus was denying reality. He was redefining it. Unlike us, Jesus sees more than the here and now. He sees the end from the beginning.

Where others see finality, He sees possibility.

Where others see death, He sees resurrection.

Where others see hopelessness, He sees an opportunity for God’s glory.

The raising of Jairus’ daughter points us to an even greater resurrection still to come. One day Jesus Himself would enter the grave. Yet three days later, He would walk out victorious over sin, Satan, and death.

As C.S. Lewis wrote, “The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.”

The resurrection is not merely an event we celebrate. It is the foundation of our hope. More than that, resurrection is not merely an event. It is found in the Person of Jesus.

Because Jesus lives, no situation is truly hopeless, and death does not get the final word. Every believer can face the future with confidence.

As a father, stories like this strike me differently now. I can imagine Jairus’ fear, his desperation, and his helplessness. But I’m reminded that my children’s lives, and my own life, ultimately rest in stronger hands than mine.

Jesus is not only Lord over storms and sickness. He is Lord over death itself. And because He lives, those who belong to Him will live also.

Final Thought: Trust the One whose voice is stronger than the grave.
